On the central court, Mariano Navone, the seventh seed, advanced to the round of 16 after a straight-sets win over Australian Christopher O'Connell, who entered the main draw as an alternate. Navone prevailed 6-4, 7-6(8) in a closely contested match, managing the big points better than his opponent, particularly in the second-set tiebreak.

 

Also today, on Court 1, Dutch eighth seed Botic van de Zandschulp claimed a commanding victory over Italian Francesco Maestrelli. Van de Zandschulp won 6-3, 6-2 in a match where he set the tempo from the very start and controlled play throughout both sets.

 

One of the surprises of the day came on Court 2, where Frenchman Titouan Droguet eliminated Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, one of the higher-ranked players in the bottom half of the Budapest draw. Droguet won in three sets, 6-1, 1-6, 6-2, in a match full of momentum swings. After dominating the first set, Bautista Agut hit back in the second, but in the decider Droguet returned to a high level and closed out the match in his favour.

 

The first day of main draw play continues at the ATP 250 Țiriac Open presented by UniCredit Bank at the Simona Halep National Tennis Centre, where matches are proceeding as scheduled.

 

At this moment, Filip Jianu, the last remaining Romanian in the competition, is on court at the central court facing Damir Džumhur.
